SPAN 9913 Medieval Spanish Literature (Fall: 3 )

Course Description

Chronologically broad, politically chaotic, and religiously charged, the Spanish Middle Ages were also a literary cornucopia, abounding in epic poetry, oriental folktales, gaming treatises, ballads, erotic poetry, and novelistic stirrings. While gaining an overview of the entire literary spectrum, students will pay particular attention to the Poema de mio Cid, Libro de buen amor, and Celestina. The works' social, artistic, and historical contexts will be considered in detail.
