SPAN 6657 Galdos: An Introduction (Fall: 3 )

Course Description

This course provides a survey of the literary production of Benito Perez Galdos, the foremost Spanish writer of the nineteenth century. Beginning with the author's famous discourse "La sociedad presente como materia novelable," we will study a range of Galdos's novels and short stories with a focus on his representations of nineteenth-century Spanish society. We will also examine film adaptations of Galdos's works, and discuss the author's continued relevance in Spanish culture.
