Course Description

This course is an ensemble dedicated to learning how to sing and play music from cultures of the Middle East. Repertoire covered includes rural and urban repertoires, popular music forms as well as art music genres. Students will learn songs in the languages of the region and the cultural context behind music making in the Arabic, Persian and Turkish-speaking world. No prior experience with this music required. Continued by ICSP 1611 in Spring.
