GSOM 8817 Boards & CEOs: Governing America's Businesses (Spring: 3 )

Course Description

In general, we learn about organizations from the bottom up because a business education prepares students to assume their place near the bottom of an organization’s structural pyramid. The real drama however, occurs in the ‘corner office’ where the CEO resides and in the boardroom, where those who possess power and influence consider the important issues facing organizations and determine their fate. With rare exceptions, members of organizations at every level have little knowledge or understanding of the governance process. This course focuses on the top of the organizational structure and unlocks the mysteries of the governance process. The class is run as a seminar, which means that we will informally discuss the day’s topic and readings together as a group.
