THTR 1702 This Is Your Brain on Theatre: Neuroscience and the Actor (Fall: 3 )
For the past century, theatre pedagogy has contemplated the dynamic relationship between actor training and neuroscience, enhancing our understanding of the complexity of the performer’s skills. This class explores these connections while engaging in acting exercises that build the important foundations of the craft, allowing performers to create reality on stage while stimulating and holding the audience’s attention. The class also considers how plays depict abnormalities in brain function, culminating in the performance of scenes related to these topics The ability of the theatre to engender empathy, stimulate memory, and illuminate human behavior are the enduring questions we will explore.
