How to read Gothic texts. The grammatical and linguistic features of Gothic, the earliest Germanic literary language (4th-6th century AD); the place of Gothic among the Germanic and Indo-European languages; the analysis of Gothic texts, beginning with an inductive reading from Ulfila’s Bible. Some previous study of linguistics or of an inflected language such as German or Latin will be helpful, although not necessary.
