ARTS 3345 Making Memory: History, Story, Image (Fall: 4 )


Course Description

An interdisciplinary course which explores the nature and process of memory and commemoration.We will address seminal events in the political, artistic, and social history of Britain and Ireland from a number of perspectives including the Siege of Derry,the Great Famine,and events of 1916 especially the Easter Rising and the Battle of the Somme. Students will be exposed to canonical and contemporary artists whose work focuses on memory and monument. Student art work will be included in a "performed" lecture called 'Reimagining 1916'which will premiere at the Abbey Theater in Dublin in January 2016 and tour Great Britain, Paris and several North American cities.
